报告摘要:
Random genetic drift is a key process in population genetics and evolution. The single most important approach to random genetic drift is the diffusion approximation. In this talk I introduce random genetic drift and the diffusion approximation. I show how singular solutions of the diffusion equation can arise, and that these singular solutions have biological significance, associated with absorption at a boundary. The singular solutions lead to a consistent approach to random genetic drift. I will discuss some additional results that arise from solutions of the diffusion equation.

David Waxman教授毕业于英国萨塞克斯大学,师从英国皇家学会会员、2003年诺贝尔物理学奖获得者Anthony J. Leggett 教授,取得了理论凝聚态物理学博士学位,此后转入计算系统生物学领域,将定量分析方法应用于生物学研究。David Waxman教授是复旦引进的首批全职“外专局千人计划”教授。
